About Leon Griffin

Bio:

Leon was born and bred in one of the world’s hotbeds of Triathlon, in Victoria, Australia. Suprising everyone but himself with some blistering performances against international competition in his Rookie Pro season of 2006, including becoming a WORLD CHAMPION, Leon is both excited and undaunted about taking the next step and solidifying himself as a consistent performer on the International Triathlon circuit.

Leon honed his skills and fed his competitive drive playing a vast array of sports growing up in the historic gold mining town of Bendigo in country Victoria. Aussie Rules Football was his number one passion, and provided early success as he won 3 premiership titles as a junior, the last one as captain of the team. He also tried his hand at Basketball, Cricket, Soccer, Swimming and Athletics all providing him with a strong drive to succeed and be the best! It wasn’t until his late teenage years that Triathlon came to his attention, and even then the training was just used as a means to keep fit during the summer period in the lay off from Football seasons.

He quickly found a passion for this extremely hard and consuming sport and by his second year being involved in triathlon had picked up a medal in his first Australian Schools Championships, team-mates with none other than the best white long distance runner the world has seen - Craig Mottram. It seemed a new sporting career beckoned, however a place at University was also knocking on the door and so it was the latter than won out.

After struggling with injuries throughout his University years, Leon had to decide whether a career in the corporate sector was a safer option than the unforgiving world of professional sport. Unsatisfied with what he believed as unfulfilled potential, Leon was determined to give the world of Triathlon his best shot before resorting to the comforts of corporate life.

So far it has brought him success with a World Duathlon Title, 2nd place in the New York City Triathlon and a host of other podium results in his short career to date.

Leon plan’s to continue raising eyebrows on the World Triathlon/Duathlon scene throughout the 2009 season.
