Lindsey Jerdonek to start in her first REV3 event

For Lindsey Jerdonek, 2013 has been a year of firsts.

It is her first full year training as a professional triathlete without a 9-5 job. It is the first time she has trained in a group environment, after moving to Boulder, Colorado. in February to join Apex Coaching. It is also the first time her race schedule includes REV3 triathlon events, an addition she is very excited about.

“I was at REV3 Venice last year cheering on my boyfriend (Kevin Collington, who raced REV3 Quassy in June), and I have wanted to do a REV3 for a while now,” Jerdonek said. “REV3 puts a huge effort into making the race a fun experience for both the athletes and the spectators. I’m particularly looking forward to the Wisconsin Dells venue by trying the local fare (cheese curds) and squeezing in some water park time before I head back to Boulder.”

Jerdonek, 28, is building momentum this season, with her recent results including an 8th place finish at the Edmonton ITU World Cup, and a 6th place finish at Boulder Peak 5150. She is currently ranked 80th in the ITU rankings.

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Jerdonek swam competitively growing up and did a few youth triathlons. She swam for the University of Maryland as a sprint freestyler and then after college competed in local triathlons in the Washington D.C area.

In 2011, in the midst of working full-time in Economics for an airline trade association, she won the Colombia triathlon, her first professional win. This result contributed to her decision to pursue triathlon as a career.

However, after leaving her economics career for a triathlon one, Jerdonek struggled to find structure and her form.

“It has been tough to shake last year, but when you train consistently for long enough, good things are going to happen,” Jerdonek said.

The Boulder training group and her coach Grant Holicky have helped her develop her strength and her consistency.

“Lindsey has worked very hard this season and with that improved fitness has come an improved confidence in herself as an athlete,” Holicky said.

Jerdonek believes if she puts together a well- rounded race she has a good shot to be on the podium this weekend in Wisconsin.
