Swimming essentials!

It’s no secret that I love the water, always have, always will.

Portland Bridge Swim 2012

Also, as I recently mentioned, focusing on your swimming and your swim technique is a great winter season activity!  So, what are my swimming essentials?  I present to you probably my favorite of the Team Rev3 Triathlon sponsors: SBR Products, also known as TriSwim, TriSlide and Foggle.  Also essential for my swim workouts are my pull buoy, paddles (a new staple), my Garmin 910xt, BlueSeventy Element goggles, and, of course, a cap!

As a sponsored Team Rev3 athlete I’m lucky enough to receive some amazing products from the team sponsors, including the full line of SBRproducts.

TriSwim Shampoo, Conditioner, Bodywash and Lotion help keep my hair and skin moisturized and free from that lovely pool smell.  As a girl who likes her hair, the shampoo and conditioner are particularly important.  In fact, my stylist has asked what I use after swimming because she’s impressed that my hair stays so healthy with all my swimming.  TriSwim products are a must for swimmers.

However, Foggle is perhaps my favorite of the SBR line.  Get annoyed by fogging goggles?  Tired of spitting in your goggles? (you swimmers know you do this so don’t even deny it) Foggle helps keep fog out of your goggles and I swear it makes the goggles themselves last longer.  Foggle comes in single packet wipes which don’t technically reseal but I usually put the wipe back in the packet and use 2-3 times before I throw it out.  Foggle keeps your goggles from fogging and doesn’t require you to spit.  I typically will foggle my goggles the night before a swim so they dry however, you can foggle right before getting into the pool.

Lastly, in the SBR Line also comes an amazing spray called, TriSlide.  TriSlide is definitely a crowd pleaser as it is not just for swimmers—my ultra-running hubby uses the stuff just as much as I do. Trislide does help get swimmers in/out of their wetsuits however, it’s also great for those, ahem, hard to reach areas prone to chaffing.  Since it’s a spray you can share it with your friends and not be grossed out by wondering where they had previously used their anti-chafe stick.  It’s in a small enough bottle to pass airport security and easily fits into any gym bag.

These products should all make their way into your swim (bike and run) training!  Looking to purchase SBR, here is a link to local retailers and you can also find the products online on amazon here.

Name: Alisa Dunlap (pronounced uh-lease-uh, or Lisa with an A…it’s really not that hard people!) Location (city/state): Portland, OR but I’ll always be a California girl How long have you been dabbling in triathlon: 5 years Why race a Rev3 Triathlon: Rev3 caters to both the professional triathlete and the last place finisher.  Being a midpack, sometimes back of the pack athlete, I really appreciate the attention Rev provides to ALL of their athletes. Favorite workout: I love a good sweatfest trainer ride but my first love will always be the water (pool, open water, doesn’t matter). What do you do when you're not training for triathlon: I spend time with my husband, which sometimes involves spectating his ultra races or shuttling him on point-to-point training runs, we are an active family who enjoys being outside.  We also spend a fair bit of time working on our 100+ year old house and have made some significant improvements to it since we moved in July 2010. Favorite food: My big as your head, everything goes salads.  At work they have been named my “trough” of salad. What is the best thing about being on Team Rev3: The camaraderie this group has and the friendships I’ve made are irreplaceable.  It’s great to know that I can travel to most any state and have a friend to visit.
