F. A. Q.

Best place to drop athletes?

The best place to drop your athletes off on race morning will be the Cedar Point parking lot. Or at the Breakers hotel for swim start. Spectators will be able to park their car in Cedar Point and walk down the beach (about half a mile) to swim start.

Spectator Parking?

Spectator parking will be in the Cedar Point Amusement park and will be $15.00 per car. If you have an athlete in your car parking is free.

Best location to view athletes?

The beach is open to anyone and a great place to watch the swim. The bike course is a two loop course if you would like to position yourself on course to cheer. Transition and the finish line is where you will find all of the action with our announcers and rocking music!

What roads will be closed or have restricted lanes?

First St. and Meigs St will have one-way traffic in Sandusky on race day. Shoreline, Water, Market, and Washington will be closed to thru traffic.

How can I track my athlete?

We will have multiple timing maps on the bike and run course. When your athlete crosses these mats their splits are sent to our servers in real time. You may stop by the Rev3 Timing Trailer (located in the Expo) at any time on race day to look for your athletes splits! 3 Separate computers with 40 inch screens will be available for all spectators to use. If you are not watching on site friends and families can still tune in at www.rev3live.com and click the results link so get updates from your athlete.

Do we have access to any post race activities?

The finish line will be the place to be! We will have post race food for athletes. Vendors will be available for spectators to purchase food.

Where will medical tents be located?

Medical tents will be located at the Finish line. Please see any Rev3 volunteer for more information and look for the red flag that says Medical.

Can I run across the finish line with my athlete?

Yes! It’s best to position yourself at the beginning of the finishing line chute to run in with your athlete. Please be aware of other racers around you…and SMILE!

When Pilot Flying J was considering our sponsorship for the 2012 season, we were excited about your brand loyalty.  2012 Rev3 Cedar Point and Rev3 Anderson champion Andy Starykowicz told us that in thanks for our sponsorship, he decided to fuel and stop only at Pilot Flying J as he drove back and forth across the country.  We hope that you will make the same decision as Andrew and patronize our Pilot Travel Centers and Flying J Travel Plazas across the United States and Canada.  Here are some ways you can do that:

Timing

rev3 timing logo 248x300 INFOWhen you pick up your timing chip at the timing trailer, after you have received your race packet, you will be asked to double check all the information on your timing chip. You must wear your timing chip at all times while you are racing. Fasten it to either ankle, with the Velcro strap provided, before the swim and leave it on until after you finish the run.

Volunteers will help you remove the chip at the finish line. If you do not start the race, you are responsible for returning the chip to timing. If you drop out or are pulled from the race at any time, turn in your chip to a REV3 Triathlon STAFF member. Failure to do so may disqualify you from participating in future REV3 events.

It is essential that we know where you are on the course at all times for your safety and our peace of mind.

Your race chip is a loaner.  By picking up your race number and timing chip, you are guaranteeing that you will return the chip to timing, or you will be billed for its replacement. There is a $111.00 replacement fee for any lost or damaged timing chips. If you lose your timing chip during the event, you are responsible for a replacement at one of the following locations: swim exit, bike exit or run exit.

The REV3 Triathlon Transition Director will have extra timing chips at the timing locations above. If you lose your timing chip while on the run course, please notify a timing official immediately after crossing the finish line. Failure to wear your timing chip on race day, return your chip after the event, or pay the replacement cost of your lost chip may disqualify you rom future Rev 3 events.

IMG 8892 600x400 INFO

Important to note: Several athletes lose their timing chip during the swim portion of the race. Please make sure your chip is strapped to your ankle underneath your wetsuit, we promise that you chip scans will read and you have a better chance of not losing your chip when you remove your wetsuit in transition.

NO CHIP = NO TIME!

Athlete Wristband

Every REV3 Triathlon triathlete will get a REV3 wristband once you check in. This band will identify you as an official participant and must be worn during race weekend. This wristband is required for medical identification purposes and allows you access to special events, transition, and post race food and recovery area. Your wristband will have your bib number on it.

YOU MUST HAVE YOUR WRISTBAND IN ORDER TO RETRIEVE YOUR BIKE OUT OF TRANSITION AND POST RACE FOOD.

Race Tattoos

We want you to look good while racing with REV3 Triathlon. You will notice in your packet pickup that we have given everyone Rev3 tattoo’s for your body marking for race day. Make sure you put these on BEFORE race morning.

THERE WILL BE NO BODY MARKING ON RACE MORNING.

Simple procedure, you should have been given 2 tattoos with your bib number on them. These two numbers go on the upper part of your arm between your shoulder and elbow.

To apply these tattoos:

REMOVE THE PLASTIC SHEET
Place one bib number on your right arm
Place the other bib number tattoo on your left arm
Use a wet cloth to dampen the area around the tattoo
Once the tattoo is damp, remove the paper
Instant tattoo!
You will receive the following tattoos: Two long numbered tattoos (these go on your arms), One rectangle size tattoo with your bib number (this goes on your right hand), your age (goes on your right calf), then a letter for your distance either an O or a H (which goes underneath your age on your calf)

To Remove Your Tattoos

There are a couple tips. You can try baby oil or packing tape works the best. Just put a layer of tape on the tattoo and it removes it with one swipe.

Parking

All parking will be at the Cedar Point Amusement park.

Parking information for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is as follows:

Your athlete wristband is required for free parking at Cedar Point. If you have not checked in they will charge you $15.00 at the gate to park. However, when leaving the park a refund will be provided once you show them your athlete wristband. If you are staying on site at Cedar Point you will need to pay the $15.00 to park and then they will refund you once you check in at your hotel.

Family members or spectators that will be traveling in separate vehicles will be required to pay the $15.00 parking fee on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and there will be no reimbursement.

Perimeter Road:

This is a reminder to all athletes that YES! this year Perimeter Road will be open so you can avoid walking your bike across the beach to transition. Please note all bike laws must be obeyed which means, stay on the correct side of the road, yield to pedestrians, and you must ALWAYS have your helmet on.

Athlete Meeting

There will be two opportunities for athletes to attend the pre-race mandatory athlete meetings. The meeting will take place in the REV3 Expo on the Stage. The meetings will be led by our Race Director Eric Opdyke and the head USAT official. If you have ANY questions regarding race day, race morning procedures, or the course please make sure you attend this meeting.

Youth Rev: There will be a MANDATORY athlete meeting on Saturday, Race Morning, at 6:20am in Transition.

Sprint Rev: There will be a Mandatory athlete meeting on Saturday, Race Morning at 8:00am at the Swim Start on the beach outside of Breakers Hotel.

Half and Full Rev: All athletes will need to go to one of the two mandatory athlete meetings which will take place on Saturday at 1:00pm and 4:00pm. The meeting will take place in the Rev3 Expo on the Stage. The meetings will be led by our Race Director Eric Opdyke and the head USAT official. If you have ANY questions regarding race day, race morning procedures, or the course please make sure you attend this meeting.

Race Morning

Remember to bring your REV3 Triathlon Timing Chip, swim cap, goggles and wet suit. Bike technicians will be available in the transition area race morning. Please do not wear your bib number in the swim. Leave it with your gear and put it on before you head out on the run course. The number will not hold up for the duration of the race if it gets wet.  You will not be permitted in the transition area on race day without your wristband, swim cap and timing chip. If you have misplaced any of these items, please see the transition area director for a replacement. During packet pick up, you will be given temporary tattoo numbers.  This is used instead of the traditional body markers on race morning.  We recommend placing these numbers on your body prior to arriving at transition race morning.  Please make sure your age is placed on your right calf and your numbers are placed on your upper arms.

NOTE: Swim start is about a half a mile from transition for the Sprint, Half, and Full Races. Please give yourself 20 minutes to walk from Transition to Swim Start on race morning. If you decide to drop all gear on

Please check the 2014 Schedule for the latest Swim Wave start times.

Age group participants shall not wear wet suits in water temperatures equal to or greater than 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The wetsuit policy for elite athletes shall be determined by the USAT Athletes Advisory Council. The AAC has set the wetsuit maximum temperature for elite/pros at 68 degrees for swim distances less than 3000 meters and 71.6 degrees for distances of 3000 meters or greater.

Bike

Welcome to this USA Triathlon sanctioned event. You are racing under the USAT Competitive Rules. In order to minimize misunderstandings on race day, I hope you will take the time to read the following summary of the Position Violations, which you know as the drafting rules.

I have reduced the Position Rules to the following concepts, which everyone can remember:

  • Ride on the right side of your lane.
  • Keep three bike lengths between yourself and the cyclist in front of you.
  • Pass on the left of the cyclist in front, never on the right.
  • Complete your pass within 15 seconds.
  • If passed, you must drop completely out of the zone, to the rear, before attempting to re-pass.

Remember you are racing in a USA Triathlon sanctioned event and there are USAT certified referees on the course to ensure fairness in the competition. There will be NO WARNINGS if you commit a foul during competition. Triathlon is an individual event and you must take personal responsibility to understand the rules and avoid penalties. At the end of the race all citations by the marshals are reviewed by the Head Referee who then decides if a penalty should be assessed. The Head Referee’s ruling is final in the case of Position Violations and there are no protests or appeals of Position penalties.

Marshals commonly cite the following violations:

  • Position– riding on the left side of the lane without passing.
  • Blocking – left side riding and impeding the forward progress of another competitor
  • Illegal Pass – passing on the right.
  • Overtaken - failing to drop back three bike lengths before re-passing
  • Drafting – following a leading cyclist closer than three bike lengths and failing to pass within 15 seconds.

Though Position Violations carry a time penalty for first offense, two citations will result in an additional penalty and if you are cited for three violations, you will be disqualified. Be sure to check the penalty sheet before you leave the race site and have a chat with the Head Referee if you have any questions.

Make sure your helmet is a CPSC approved model. All helmets legally sold in the US are CPSC approved but if you purchased your helmet in a different country it might be illegal for use in sanctioned events. While on your bike, always have your chinstrap securely fastened - before, during and after the event! The chin strap rule is easy to follow, so don’t forget – that’s a DQ!

Wear your race numbers, don’t leave your trash on the course, and don’t carry or use any portable audio devices.

Remember to treat other athletes, volunteers, and officials with courtesy and consideration. Failure to do so is called Unsportsmanlike Conduct and you will be disqualified.

All that being said, I hope you have a great race, lots of fun, and achieve all your goals.
