Athlete Wristband

Every REV3 Triathlon triathlete will get a REV3 wristband once you check in. This band will identify you as an official participant and must be worn during race weekend. This wristband is required for medical identification purposes and allows you access to special events, transition, and post race food and recovery area. Your wristband will have your bib number on it.

Race Tattoos

We want you to look good while racing with Rev3. You will notice in your packet pickup that we have given everyone Rev3 tattoo’s for your body marking for race day. Make sure you put these on BEFORE race morning.

Simple procedure, you should have been given 2 tattoos with your bib number on them. These two numbers go on the upper part of your arm between your shoulder and elbow. To apply these tattoos, REMOVE THE PLASTIC SHEET first.  Place one bib number on your right arm and the other bib number tattoo on your left arm.  Use a wet cloth to dampen the area around the tattoo.  Once the tattoo is damp, remove the paper. Instant tattoo!

You will receive the following tattoos: Two long numbered tattoos (these go on your arms), One rectangle size tattoo with your bib number (this goes on your right hand), your age (goes on your right calf), then a letter for your distance (which goes underneath your age on your calf)

To Remove Your Tattoos: There are a couple tips. You can try baby oil or packing tape works the best. Just put a layer of tape on the tattoo and it removes it with one swipe.

Athlete Timing Chip

rev3 timing logo 248x300 INFOWhen you pick up your timing chip at the timing trailer, after you have received your race packet, you will be asked to double check all the information on your timing chip. You must wear your timing chip at all times while you are racing. Fasten it to either ankle, with the Velcro strap provided, before the swim and leave it on until after you finish the run.

Volunteers will help you remove the chip at the finish line. If you do not start the race, you are responsible for returning the chip to timing. If you drop out or are pulled from the race at any time, turn in your chip to a Rev3 STAFF member. Failure to do so may disqualify you from participating in future REV3 events.

It is essential that we know where you are on the course at all times for your safety and our peace of mind.

Your race chip is a loaner.  By picking up your race number and timing chip, you are guaranteeing that you will return the chip to timing, or you will be billed for its replacement. There is a $111.00 replacement fee for any lost or damaged timing chips. If you lose your timing chip during the event, you are responsible for a replacement at one of the following locations: swim exit, bike exit or run exit.

The Rev3 Transition Director will have extra timing chips at the timing locations above. If you lose your timing chip while on the run course, please notify a timing official immediately after crossing the finish line. Failure to wear your timing chip on race day, return your chip after the event, or pay the replacement cost of your lost chip may disqualify you rom future Rev 3 events.

Important to note: Several athletes lose their timing chip during the swim portion of the race. Please make sure your chip is strapped to your ankle underneath your wetsuit, we promise that you chip scans will read and you have a better chance of not losing your chip when you remove your wetsuit in transition.

Spinlister is a peer-to-peer bike rental platform to connect the cycling universe, help the environment, and encourage peer-to-peer sharing. With their seamless web, iOS, and android apps, built-in security features, and a database of user reviews, Spinlister has won the trust of communities of athletes all over the world.

Spinlister provides a platform for listers and renters to meet. Listers make money by renting their equipment to like-minded people while renters find a variety of rides all over the world for an affordable price. Spinlister currently has users in over 100 countries and insures all bikes (up to $10,000), skis/snowboards (up to $1,000), and SUPs/surfboards (up to $2,000) against theft or damage.

How it works for people listing:

1) Members easily sign up through our web platform, iOS app, or Android app.

2) They list their bicycles, skis, snowboards, SUPs, or surfboards with real photos, to rent to likeminded people worldwide. They set their own price, which they can also adjust per rental.

3) Users searching for equipment in their area request to rent for specified days and times. Listers can easily turn down an offer if the agreement doesn’t work for them.

4) Money is transferred securely prior to pick up, eliminating any uncomfortable conversations or non-payment.

5) Every bike listed is insured up to $5,000, skis/snowboards $1,000, and SUPs/surfboards $2,000 against theft or damage, making the experience completely safe for every person listing their gear. Both renters and listers can review each other and become verified through Facebook, Twitter, and cell phone.

How it works for the renter:

1) Users search for bikes, skis, snowboards, SUPs, or surfboards in the area they wish to rent.

2) They view the equipment available in that area and make a request to rent the ride.

3) There is an in-app chat feature allowing both parties to communicate about price, components, verifications, reviews, etc. Once the lister decides they will rent the equipment to the person requesting, they “confirm” the request.

4) Renter pays for the rental and picks up their equipment at the negotiated time and place.

Course Summary

Athletes will start in waves starting south of Sharky’s Pier and swim north of the pier and exit close to the transition area, just north of the pier. It will be a point to point swim course, mostly swimming close to shore and just out side the pier, making for a very spectator friendly swim course in the Gulf of Mexico.

Swim Summary

The majority of our events are held in locations where the swim course utilizes a body of water that is open to the general public for swimming, boating and other recreational and commercial activities. Rev3 wishes to caution all participants that it does not provide lifeguard services prior to the event, and that all participants who swim prior to race day or during non practice swim hours will do so at their own risk.

While we make reasonable efforts to inspect the swim entry and exit points for underwater hazards, the inspection does not take place until just before the swim discipline starts. Participants are further admonished to exercise caution and use common sense if they elect to swim prior to the event and to be mindful of underwater hazards.    Keep in mind that this is a natural body of water and is subject to hidden hazards including, but not limited to: currents, underwater obstructions, tides, rip currents and indigenous marine life.

Swim Course Rules and Regulations:

Wearing swim goggles or a face mask is recommended, but optional

No fins, paddles, or flotation devices of any kind allowed

Timing Chips must be secured on your ankle.

No individual paddlers or escorts allowed. Course will be adequately patrolled by surfboards, kayaks, and patrol boats.

Please do not apply sunscreen or Vaseline to areas bearing your race number prior to applying your race number. Numbers must remain on during the swim.

Time penalties may be imposed on an athlete not behind the official start line 5 minutes prior to the race start.

Swimmers are required to stay on course and keep turn buoys on their right. Failure to do so may result in disqualification.

If you require assistance in the swim you are able to hold on to any kayak as long as you do not make any forward progression. If you are unable to finish the swim or need immediate assistance please remove your swim cap and wave it in the air until a boat or lifeguard is by your side.

Each swimmer must wear the colored swim cap provided by the Race Director, unless you have latex allergies or you switch for the red swim cap.

BASE Performance

On course at each aid station instead of your typical salt tablets we will have BASE Performance Salt.  Base Electrolyte Salts are not just sodium chloride; it actually has all 84 essential minerals needed for proper energy balance, including calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

Have one serving per hour of exercise to maintain electrolyte balance and reduce cramping.

Be on the lookout for BASE in the retail store on site Saturday and at each aid station on race day!

To find out more about BASE check them out here:

Bike Course

Bike Course Summary:

This course will be flat and fast on great pavement. Athletes will experience great views along the beautiful Manasota Key. With under 300 ft of total climbing, this course is set up for a fast times. The minimal climbs will all happen over 4 drawbridges. The bike course will conclude through downtown Venice before heading back to the transition area.

Bike Course Markings:

The Olympic Bike course will be marked with GREEN signs and GREEN duct tape arrows on the ground.  There will be a progression of duct tape arrows on the ground before every turn and then a progression of duct tape arrows on the ground after every turn.

The Half Bike course will be marked with PINK signs and PINK duct tape arrows on the ground.  There will be a progression of duct tape arrows on the ground before every turn and then a progression of duct tape arrows on the ground after every turn.

Bike Course Rules and Regulations:

USAT Rules

Welcome to this USA Triathlon sanctioned event. You are racing under the USAT Competitive Rules. In order to minimize misunderstandings on race day, please take the time to read the following summary of the Position Violations, which you know as the drafting rules.

Position Rules can be summarized to the following:

  • Ride on the right side of your lane.
  • Keep three bike lengths between yourself and the cyclist in front of you.
  • Pass on the left of the cyclist in front, never on the right.
  • Complete your pass within 15 seconds.
  • If passed, you must drop completely out of the zone, to the rear, before attempting to re-pass.

Remember you are racing in a USA Triathlon sanctioned event and there are USAT certified referees on the course to ensure fairness in the competition. There will be NO WARNINGS if you commit a foul during competition. Triathlon is an individual event and you must take personal responsibility to understand the rules and avoid penalties. At the end of the race all citations by the marshals are reviewed by the Head Referee who then decides if a penalty should be assessed. The Head Referee’s ruling is final in the case of Position Violations and there are no protests or appeals of Position penalties.

Marshals commonly cite the following violations:

  • Position– riding on the left side of the lane without passing.
  • Blocking – left side riding and impeding the forward progress of another competitor
  • Illegal Pass – passing on the right.
  • Overtaken – failing to drop back three bike lengths before re-passing
  • Drafting – following a leading cyclist closer than three bike lengths and failing to pass within 15 seconds.

Though Position Violations carry a time penalty for first offense, two citations will result in an additional penalty and if you are cited for three violations, you will be disqualified. Be sure to check the penalty sheet before you leave the race site and have a chat with the Head Referee if you have any questions.

Make sure your helmet is a CPSC approved model. All helmets legally sold in the US are CPSC approved but if you purchased your helmet in a different country it might be illegal for use in sanctioned events.

While on your bike, always have your chinstrap securely fastened – before, during and after the event! The chin strap rule is easy to follow, so don’t forget – that’s a DQ!

Wear your race numbers, don’t leave your trash on the course, and don’t carry or use any portable audio devices.

Remember to treat other athletes, volunteers, and officials with courtesy and consideration. Failure to do so is called Unsportsmanlike Conduct and you will be disqualified.

REV3 Glow Run

Stars aren’t the only things that shine at night—REV3 Glow runners do too! Come on out for an evening of family fun, where you can take part in a 5K or 1-mile fun run dressed to the hilt with glow sticks and all things bright and shiny. Flash and sparkle your way around the course and then relax and watch a movie as the day slowly fades away.

The 5K and 1-mile fun run will be untimed, so if you want to take your time and soak in the evening, you won’t have the pressure of a clock to beat. Each entrant will receive a glow-in-the-dark T-shirt, a glow stick, and access to a post-race movie and snacks.

We will be handing out special prizes for Glow runners who are the brightest, most flashy, and most reflective. Time to get ready to GLOW!
