Venice Area Beautification

For more than 20 years, the dedicated Board and active volunteers that energize Venice Area Beautification, Inc. have embraced their mission to make the City of Venice and the surrounding community a vibrant and attractive place to call home. Venice has an engaging natural charm that VABI enhances through their park and public art projects. As a vital community nonprofit, VABI takes pride in their capacity to partner effectively with governments, foundations and a variety of local associations. This ability to plan park and art projects and bring them to completion efficiently has earned Venice Area Beautification, Inc. well-deserved community respect.

Venice Area Mobile Meals

Venice Area Mobile Meals, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, community supported, all volunteer organization, has delivered over 1.4 million noon-time meals to area residents since 1969. Its mission is to provide a warm, noon-time meal, daily except Sunday, to any person in the Greater Venice, Florida area unable to prepare a meal because of a physical or mental disability. Although there are no age restrictions, most meal recipients are seniors.

An average of 165 meals are delivered a day, 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year, holidays included, with the help of about 200 volunteers, each providing a few hours of their time each week.

Venice Youth Boating Association

VYBA is a non-profit sailing organization that serves the youth of Venice, Florida, and surrounding areas. Housed in the Pram Shed on the grounds of the Venice Yacht Club, we hold summer learn-to-sail courses for beginners and advanced classes for more experienced sailors. We also maintain a year-round racing team that practices on Saturdays and competes in many major regattas state-wide.

Each summer, VYBA teaches over 100 youth, ages 9 through 14, basic sailing skills in International Optimist Dinghy (IOD) class boats. Although our main purpose is to teach basic sailing skills during summer classes, advanced classes are offered to those sailors who show interest and skill. Some of the advanced students are also offered the opportunity to join the VYBA Green Fleet year-round program.

Bitter Ends Venice Women’s Sailing Squadron

The Venice Women’s Sailing Squadron (VWSS) was born in September of 1976.

It was started by Nancy Herron who decided that Venice needed an organization for woman sailors and with the able assistance of Sally Zenker and Ann Spaulding she proceeded to create one.

The Learn-To-Sail teaching program was started in 1979 and is still offered yearly for one week starting the first Monday after Labor Day.  There have been approximately 400 women who have been taught their sailing basics since the squadron’s founding in 1976.  Although the group has grown, there is still much enthusiasm and continuing resolution to encourage women’s sailing in the area.
A Bitter Ends can tack, reach, run, jibe and tie bowlines with the best of them! VWSS has served as a staunch support group through joy and sorrow for many women with the seeds of long lasting friendships.

The V-Pack

A group of runners in a race who are bunched together to maintain a steady pace and draw inspiration from each other are often referred to as a “pack”, hence the abbreviated form of The Venice Running Group became the “V-Pack”.

Deciding to improve one’s life style with exercise can be intimidating and many do not even know how to start. We know because every one of us has been there! That’s why we welcome new participants, to share what we have experienced.

The V-Pack is a mix of male and female local residents and winter visitors. There are no fees, no rules, no dress code and no intimidation. The only requirement is your own commitment and determination!

The V-Pack is volunteering on behalf of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Sarasota County.
