While most people go to Costa Rica to vacation, and relax on the beach- 700 athletes with their families showed up in the Tamarindo Airport with their bikes, their race gear, and their game-faces – all ready to race the REV3 season opener.

REV3 Costa Rica is known for its leg-thrashing course and tough weather conditions. This year, Rev3 offered a series of triathlons starting with the Kids Triathlon and Sprint Rev on Saturday and the Elite Olympic Rev and Half Rev on Sunday.  The elites were racing for a $25,000 prize purse.

In the men’s race, it was all about Cameron Dye.  He lead the group out of the swim and was able to open up a sizable gap of 2 minutes on the bike giving him a nice buffer to cruise to a victory today.  Manny Huerta made up a couple of places in the run and finished second.  The big mover was Jesse Thomas who was second to last coming out of the swim, made up some ground on the bike, and ran from the back of the pack to third place in 10k.  Impressive.  Chris Foster and REV3 athlete, Brian Fleischmann, rounded out the top 5 today both having solid performances.

Nicole Kelleher, USA’s 2010 collegiate champion, was our women’s winner today.  She finished mid-pack in swim and came off the bike in first with 1:30 gap to our second place finisher, REV3 athlete, Bree Wee.  Kelleher continued to put time into the women’s field on the run finishing over three minutes ahead of the other women.  Sarah Gray, a young up-and-coming pro finished third having a strong swim-bike-run combo.  Emily Cocks and Lauren Goss capped the top 5 PRO Women, all mastering the tough course and weather conditions presented this morning.
