Timing Chip

When you pick up your timing chip at the timing trailer, after you have received your race packet, you will be asked to double check all the information on your timing chip. You must wear your timing chip at all times while you are  racing. Fasten it to either ankle, with the Velcro strap provided, before the swim and leave it on until after you finish the run.

Volunteers will help you remove the chip at the finish line. If you do not start the race, you are responsible for returning the chip to timing. If you drop out or are pulled from the race at any time, turn in your chip to a Rev3 STAFF member. Failure to do so may disqualify you from participating in future REV3 events.

It is essential that we know where you are on the course at all times for your safety and our peace of mind.

Your race chip is a loaner.  By picking up your race number and timing chip, you are guaranteeing that you will return the chip to timing, or you will be billed for its replacement. There is a $111.00 replacement fee for any lost or damaged timing chips. If you lose your timing chip during the event, you are responsible for a replacement at one of the following locations: swim exit, bike exit or run exit.

The Rev3 Transition Director will have extra timing chips at the timing locations above. If you lose your timing chip while on the run course, please notify a timing official immediately after crossing the finish line. Failure to wear your timing chip on race day, return your chip after the event, or pay the replacement cost of your lost chip may disqualify you rom future Rev 3 events.

NO CHIP = NO TIME

Race Tattoos

We want you to look good while racing with Rev3. You will notice in your packet pickup that we have given everyone Rev3 tattoo’s for your body marking for race day. Make sure you put these on BEFORE race morning. THERE WILL BE NO BODY MARKING ON RACE MORNING.

Simple procedure, you should have been given 2 tattoos with your bib number on them. These two numbers go on the upper part of your arm between your shoulder and elbow. To apply these tattoos, REMOVE THE PLASTIC SHEET first.  Place one bib number on your right arm and the other bib number tattoo on your left arm.  Use a wet cloth to dampen the area around the tattoo.  Once the tattoo is damp, remove the paper. Instant tattoo!

You will receive the following tattoos: Two long numbered tattoos (these go on your arms), One rectangle size tattoo with your bib number (this goes on your right hand), your age (goes on your right calf), then a letter for your distance either an O or a H (which goes underneath your age on your calf)

To Remove Your Tattoos: There are a couple tips. You can try baby oil or packing tape works the best. Just put a layer of tape on the tattoo and it removes it with one swipe.

Bike Check-In

  • Bike Check for the OLYMPIC will be on Friday from 4pm-8pm
  • Bike Check for the HALF will be on Saturday from 2:00pm-7:15pm

You will have access to your bike beginning at 5:15am on race morning for the Olympic and 5:00am on race morning for the Half. You will not be able to remove your bike from transition until the start of the bike portion of the race.

F.A.Q.

What time does the race start?

The Olympic Rev will begin at 7:00am on Saturday June 1st and the Half Rev will begin at 6:50am on Sunday June 2nd.

Where is the best place to drop Athletes off on race morning?

The best spot to drop athletes on race morning will be on Christian Rd which is right across the street from the Quassy Amusement Park.

Where is Athlete and Spectator Parking?

Athletes will have four lots to park. The Quassy Amusement Park, Baseball Fields across the street from Quassy, the Timex lot, and Pomperaug Lot.

The Quassy lots will fill up first (within an hour of transition opening.) We would recommend all spectators use the Timex parking lot first. Timex headquarters is located on Christian Rd, 1 mile away from the park.

If that is full, then you can use Pomperaug High School which is about 2 miles away located on Judd Rd.

Shuttles will loop around offering rides to the Expo but will most likely not go to Pomperaug lot until the Timex lot is full.

How can I track my athlete:

We will have multiple timing maps on the bike and run course. When your athlete crosses these mats their splits are sent to our servers in real time. You may stop by the Rev3 Timing Trailer (located in the Expo) at any time on race day to look for your athletes splits. 3 Separate computers with 40 inch screens will be available for all spectators to use. If you are not watching on site friends and families can still tune in at www.rev3tri.com and click the Live link so get updates from your athlete.

Do we have access to any post race activities:

The finish line will be the place to be! We will have post race food for athletes. Vendors will be available for spectators to purchase food.

Where will medical tents be located?

Medical tents will be located at the Finish line. Please see any Rev3 volunteer or STAFF member for more information and look for the red flag that says Medical.

Which roads will be closed?

The following roads will be closed to thru-traffic on Saturday and Sunday June 1st and 2nd:

• Rt. 64 (between Rt. 188 and Rt. 6): June 1st from 7am to 12noon and June 2nd from 7am to 4pm

• Tuttle Road (between Rt. 64 & White Deer Rock Road): June 2nd from 7am to 1:30pm

• White Deer Rock Road (between Tuttle Road & Tranquility Road): June 2nd from 9:30am to 2:30pm

• Alain White / Whites Wood Road (between Rt. 61 and Bissell Road): June 2nd from 8:30am to 11:30am

With 2,000 athletes racing, motorists can expect to experience delays throughout the race course to ensure both athletes and motorists remain safe. Police will be on-hand to direct traffic and keep people moving as efficiently as possible.

Pre-Race Clinics

blueseventy Swim Clinic w/ Professional Triathlete Malaika Homo:

Malaika took the top spot at Revolution3 Cedar Point in 2011. She was out fifth place professional woman in the 2012 Revolution Series and is back for more in 2013 to compete for the series Championship.

Malaika  will go over tips about a proper warm up, drills to do before getting in the water, ways to control your breathing, and most importantly things to do if you get panicked.

The Clinic will take place from 2pm- 2:30pm pm on the Quassy Beach (swim start). This is also during the practice swim and is open to all athletes participating in the Rev3 Quassy weekend. Even if you are not swimming this will be a great clinic to get some tips for race morning, so come on out and enjoy the fun!

Open Water Swim and Triathlon Clinic for Youth Triathletes:

Join the Nutmeg Youth Triathlon Team(NYTT), Olympian Sam Warriner and Rev3 at Quassy Beach on Friday evening May 31st from 6-7PM for a youth open water swim clinic. There is no fee or preregistration necessary to attend.

NYTT, Connecticut’s premier youth triathlon team, has partnered with Rev3 and New Zealand’s most successful female triathlete to share their passion for the sport with kids ages 7-14.  Attendees will learn the basics or refine their techniques for open water swimming including:

  •   sighting buoys
  • pack swimming
  • beach and in water swim starts
  •  beach swim exits
  •  navigating their swim course

This is a great opportunity for those who may be new to the sport of open water swimming or triathlons to learn some of the needed skills, and for experienced youth to refine their skills in a non-competitive and safe environment with seasoned coaches.

In addition to open water swim techniques, Sam will discuss life as a professional triathlete and answer questions from the kids.

To find out more about Sam or the Nutmeg Youth Triathlon Team, check out their websites:

Please Note:  This is not a learn to swim clinic.

Practice Swim

There will be two opportunities for practice swims this weekend.

  •  Opportunity #1: Friday May 31st from 2pm-4pm
  •  Opportunity #2: Saturday June 1st from 12:00pm-2pm

Both practice swims will take place on the Quassy Beach.

NOTE: You will NOT be allowed to swim outside of these designated hours.

Bike Course Rules and Regulations:

USAT Rules

Welcome to this USA Triathlon sanctioned event. You are racing under the USAT Competitive Rules. In order to minimize misunderstandings on race day, please take the time to read the following summary of the Position Violations, which you know as the drafting rules.

Position Rules can be summarized to the following:

  • Ride on the right side of your lane.
  • Keep three bike lengths between yourself and the cyclist in front of you.
  • Pass on the left of the cyclist in front, never on the right.
  • Complete your pass within 15 seconds.
  • If passed, you must drop completely out of the zone, to the rear, before attempting to re-pass.

Remember you are racing in a USA Triathlon sanctioned event and there are USAT certified referees on the course to ensure fairness in the competition. There will be NO WARNINGS if you commit a foul during competition. Triathlon is an individual event and you must take personal responsibility to understand the rules and avoid penalties. At the end of the race all citations by the marshals are reviewed by the Head Referee who then decides if a penalty should be assessed. The Head Referee’s ruling is final in the case of Position Violations and there are no protests or appeals of Position penalties.

Marshals commonly cite the following violations:

  • Position– riding on the left side of the lane without passing.
  • Blocking – left side riding and impeding the forward progress of another competitor
  • Illegal Pass – passing on the right.
  • Overtaken - failing to drop back three bike lengths before re-passing
  • Drafting – following a leading cyclist closer than three bike lengths and failing to pass within 15 seconds.

Though Position Violations carry a time penalty for first offense, two citations will result in an additional penalty and if you are cited for three violations, you will be disqualified. Be sure to check the penalty sheet before you leave the race site and have a chat with the Head Referee if you have any questions.

Make sure your helmet is a CPSC approved model. All helmets legally sold in the US are CPSC approved but if you purchased your helmet in a different country it might be illegal for use in sanctioned events.

While on your bike, always have your chinstrap securely fastened – before, during and after the event! The chin strap rule is easy to follow, so don’t forget – that’s a DQ!

Wear your race numbers, don’t leave your trash on the course, and don’t carry or use any portable audio devices.

Remember to treat other athletes, volunteers, and officials with courtesy and consideration. Failure to do so is called Unsportsmanlike Conduct and you will be disqualified.
