Day of the Dead Virtual Run
This year we are celebrating Dia De Los Muertos virtually! Dia de Los Muertos attire strongly encouraged. This is a race the whole family can enjoy. You have the option to run in the half marathon, 5K or 10k.
Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a celebration of life and death. While the holiday originated in Mexico, it is celebrated all over Latin America with colorful calaveras (skulls) and calacas (skeletons). It is typically held on November 1 to November 2 that reunites the living and dead. Families create ofrendas (Offerings) to honor their departed family members that have passed. These altars are decorated with bright yellow marigold flowers, photos of the departed, and the favorite foods and drinks of the one being honored. The offerings are believed to encourage visits from the land of the dead as the departed souls hear their prayers, smell their foods, and join in on the celebrations! Day of the Dead is a rare holiday for celebrating death and life. It is unlike any holiday where mourning is exchanged for celebration. Because this is a virtual event we encourage you to run with us (virtually of course) from October 31 to November 2.
