KIDS DUATHLON & SPRINT TRIATHLON/DUATHLON/AQUABIKE ON SATURDAY JULY 9th, 2022
OLYMPIC & HALF RACES ON SUNDAY JULY 10th, 2022
Williamsburg, Virginia is home to famous Colonial Williamsburg, the nation’s largest living history museum that introduces visitors to life in 18th century America. The historic Jamestown Island and Yorktown Battlefield are nearby, earning Williamsburg the nickname of the “Historic Triangle.” Visitors may also jump into modern times with a visit to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, which has over 350 acres of roller coasters, water parks, rides and attractions. Laser tag, haunted dinner theatres, bowling alleys and more are a part of the area, where there really is something for everyone.
There will be one transition area located at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. The swim will take place in the Chickahominy river. The swim course will be reversible depending on the conditions. Our goal will be to make it safer and more favorable for you. Water temperatures are likely to be in the high 70’s to low 80’s.
After leaving Chickahominy Riverfront Park, athletes take a right onto Rte 5 and over the Judith Steward Dresser Memorial Bridge for a rolling ride through the rural roads of Charles City County. The terrain is enough to give athletes time out of the saddle and to keep the ride interesting but won’t overly tax your legs for the run.
The entire run is on the newly completed Virginia Capital Trail, a 52-mile dedicated multi-use, paved trail connecting Richmond and Williamsburg along the historic and beautiful Route 5 corridor. After the first mile, the tall trees on either side of the trail provide ample shade for the flat run course. The bridge at the very beginning and end will provide a challenging start and finish to the run leg.

Course Description
All of the swim courses will take place from Chickahominy Riverfront Park. The swim courses will be reversible depending on the conditions. Our goal will be to make it safer and more favorable for you. Water temperatures are likely to be in the high 70’s to low 80’s and likely wetsuits will not be allowed (at least to be considered for awards). Each race will have a time trial start where 2-3 athletes will start approx. every 5 seconds. Each athlete is expected to self-seed from fastest to slowest in order to have the cleanest swim.
All of the bike courses will start and end at the transition area located at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. Roads will be open to traffic so athletes should be aware of their surroundings at all times. The courses will have a little bit of everything (rollers, flats, long stretches, a few hills) however they should be relatively fast. In addition you have some great scenery and you won’t be bored. For the HalfREV, there is a railroad crossing we cannot avoid. This railway is serviced by Amtrak, Commercial rail, and military rail (schedules not published). There will be a timing point on either side of the tracks and everyone’s time will be subtracted between these two points so whether you get stopped by the train or not there will be no time disadvantage if you get stopped.
The run course will take place on the Virginia Capital Trail. This is a paved multi-use trail which is mostly shaded. This will be an out/back run. The HalfREV will go out/back 2x.
