How quickly a year went by! This was to be my fourth consecutive race at Quassy and I was excited to see if the hard 8 weeks of training had paid off. My friend and training
partner was to be my biggest rival.

Richie Cunningham has had a great string of results since breaking his hip last August and after training with him back in Boulder since April I knew he was in the shape of his life. Richie being Richie he would never tell you this and tried to play it down. He thought he had flown under the radar until in the pre race interview I dropped him in and placed a little expectation on his performance. He delivered!

Racing at the front of the race for most of the day he finally bridged up to Cunnama with 2 miles left to race. With a little more in the tank he broke away to take the win. I had front row seats to this show as I had swam just behind these guys, rode with them and then kept them within 30 seconds until the finishing line.

For me, it was a great return to racing after pulling up a little worse for wear after IM Melbourne 10 weeks earlier. As Richie and I had prepared together, travelled together and even shared a hotel room the goal was to go first and second. Nearly! I am looking forward to building on this race. The body is good the mind is motivated and lots of fantastic races in great locations to look forward to. Next up, Syracuse 70.3 in 3 weeks.
